05. Turnali - Akbük

In the morning it was cloudy once more. On the positive side, it didn't rain last night and my tent was more or less dry, so I could quickly pack my stuff and continue the ascent.

The path was kind of rocky, sometimes a little overgrown, but overall really nice to walk. Funny looking trees with reddish bark stood to both sides of the trail, until I finally topped out and could enjoy the awesome view over the gulf far below me. Despite the not especially awesome weather, I could see across the the Resadiye peninsula and enjoy a second breakfast on the ridge.

This being the highest point of the section between Turnali and Akbük, I could easily hike straight on towards the small village Sarnic, situated in the middle of this flat mountain valley. And I was happy it's only straight there, because the neverending forest was incredibly boring...

After some route finding problems (the route description in the guidebook can be a bit ambiguous from time to time), I was finally on the right track again and entered the village square. Bought some cookies in the store, a lot of old men sat around drinking coffee/tee and watched my every step - happily, because I didn't find the right way out of the village (was supposed to go back out the same way again until the right path branches off after like 500 m). I didn't even finish unpacking the guidebook and nice people were already gathering to show me the way :)

Since the weather was kind of cold up here, I was kind of freezing and eager to continue down to the sea again. The path was quite rocky and in parts a bit muddy, not so enjoyable, but at least it's not a terribly long passage. After crossing the road which more or less follows the coastline, I could already see the nice beach at Akbük in the distance. Just before reaching the small village, my foot got caught on a rock hidden in the deep grass - no chance to avoid a fall, but at least I didn't get hurt. Note to self: don't hurry too much...

A short tea break in one of the cafés later, I had checked up on all my emails and set off to look for a campsite further uphill. After about one hour, I encountered an abundance of flat grassy spots in the middle of nowhere and set up my tent. The dinner was only a short thing, it was just too cold and windy and I was looking forward to my sleeping bag way too much.
